Two famous people

John Sewell was elected Mayor of Toronto in 1978. While he was a mayor, he liked to ride his bicycle to council as an environmentalist. He was called "Mayor Blue Jeans" by the Toronto Sun for wearing denim. In the 1980 election, he lost the mayor's office but won re-election in 1982. He retired from municipal politics in 1984.

Tom Jakobek is a former member of the Toronto City Council, who may be best remembered for getting free trips to Disney World from his completed leasing deals for the city. He was first elected to council in 1982, serving as a school trustee, and remained a member until 2000. When he became a city budget chief in 1990, he delivered nine consecutive budgets with no tax increases. He retired from politics in 2000.
